Exercise for Busy Entrepreneurs
Easy Ways to Fit Exercise Into Your Busy Schedule
As a busy entrepreneur, it can be tough to find the time to exercise. You’re already juggling a small business and trying to find the time to do all the things to make your business successful, from marketing to client relations to day-to-day operations. If you have a family, it becomes even harder to find time for yourself. However, there are many ways to find time to exercise in even the busiest schedules. Of course, you won’t be able to spend two hours a day in the gym, but with a little creative thinking and some realistic expectations, you can make exercise a part of your schedule every day. Here are a few ideas:
Make It Social
Extend your expert multi-tasking abilities to your social life and invite your friends to join you in a little exercise. Go for a walk or a run, enjoy a bike ride, or take a hike to enjoy spending time with friends and fitting in some exercise. if you have children, you can also make family time exercise time. A walk, a friendly game of hoops, or a swim at a local lake or pool all make great family activities that will also let you burn off some calories.
Use Your Lunch Hour
A 20-minute walk or run can easily be squeezed in just before you sit down to enjoy your lunch, allowing you to make the most of your free hour. For a little variety, try doing squats or other body-weight exercises at your desk, run up and down stairs in your building, or do a little yoga in your office or at a nearby park. If you work from home, you won’t even need to schedule in enough time to take a shower when you get back. (No one will notice if you’re hanging out in your dirty sweats at home.)
Break It Up
Sometimes, it can be hard to find even 30 extra minutes in the day to exercise. But if you take a closer look at your schedule, you’ll likely find that you have 5 or 10 minutes here or there. Research has shown that three 10-minute sessions of exercise per day is just as effective as one 30-minute session. Take a quick 10-minute walk, do some stretching or yoga, or jump on a stationary bike for 10 minutes. It will be easy to fit in these shorter sessions between tasks, and you’ll get a surge or energy and productivity each time.
Make Sessions More Efficient
You don’t have to run 10 miles a day to stay in shape — and you almost definitely don’t have the time to fit in the hour or two it will take you to run that far. Fortunately, you don’t have to do that much work to get the benefits of exercise. Make your workouts more efficient by engaging in higher intensity exercise in shorter amounts of time. For example, instead of running 5 miles in an hour, increase your speed and run the same distance in 30 minutes. You’ll burn more calories and do it in less time.
Make Your Whole Day More Active
You’ve heard this advice time and time again for a reason: It works. Take the stairs, park farther away from the entrance, bike to the market, and wash your own car. Find little ways to fit in more exercise throughout your day by taking some of the conveniences out of your routine. Cook your own meals instead of microwaving, wash your own dog instead of dropping him off at the groomers, or walk the trash down to the dump instead of leaving it by the stoop. Look for whatever ways you can to include physical activity in your day, and it will add up.
Finding the time to exercise doesn’t have to be difficult if you just make small changes and look for ways to include physical activity wherever you can. These are just a few ideas that will help you get more exercise into your day. What other ways have you found to fit more exercise into your day? Tell us in the comments!

What is PR, exactly?!
Time and again I am asked quizzed by many established professionals ‘What is PR’ and ‘What exactly do you do?’ Most of the time I reply with a smile, “Why don’t you Google it?”. But today I am making an attempt to explain what I do as a PR consultant and how you can benefit from it!
From remembering birth days, special occasions, marking our presence at someone’s demise to sending flowers over for a speedy recovery are little things we all do in our personal lives to create/enhance our reputation. The same law, when applied in the business, is called PR. It’s worth mentioning here that PR of course goes far beyond just remembering important days!
Public relations or PR, as it’s better known, has been in existence from time immemorial. Haven’t we all read the about the ‘official messenger’ who communicated and carried messages to the audience, relayed news, made announcements about the latest developments and so on. He even played as a mediator in resolving issues between two states which extended PR’s role to efficiently overseeing crisis management.
It still continues to play a pivotal role in our lives from managing relationships to networking with newer groups who we could associate with for mutual benefit.
Let me give you an example. Recently my colleagues and I were travelling for work to another city and stayed in a hotel. While we were there, it happened to be one of the colleagues birthday. The rest of us were planning to throw a little party by getting a cake, etc but we were all in for a surprise when the hotel staff hosted a birthday lunch for all of us. How did they find out about the birthday? From the photo-ids that we had submitted at the time of check-in! Isn’t that amazing? They bowled us over with their thoughtfulness, creating a very positive image in our minds. So much so, that I am writing about them here! And that’s PR.
This example confirms that foundation of PR remains the same except that the approach, ideas, strategy, etc become more brand specific and scientific in nature. When you start a venture what are your top most priorities?
- How do I bring in customers/clients?
- How do I retain these and make them come back for more?
- How to do I build the brand?
- How do I make it one of the first few in its league?
- How do I attract eye balls?
- How do I create and build confidence?
- How do I get endorsements?
What is that ideal tool for you to achieve all the above, at a fraction of the cost since you are a start-up and cash strapped? I already gave you the answer! It is PR. While there are a lot of things that you can do at your level, there is a lot more that can be done and achieved if you hire a specialist on board.
In my next post I will attempt to throw some light on how you can do PR for your start up on your own. Till then, give some thought to what PR is and how you have already been doing it for yourself.
